        2021年12月4日至2022年1月8日,來自台灣的社團法人台灣視覺藝術協會,與摩洛哥丹吉爾當地的獨立藝術空間 Mahal Art Space 聯合展出,以 Mahal Art Space 10月在2021年台灣當代一年展線上展的展覽主題《What Dies Last》出發,籌辦作為日前合作延續的實體展覽。本次展出邀請了摩洛哥本地藝術家 Mohamed Haïti、Ahmad Karmouni、Rahma Lhoussig、Réda Boudina、Diyae Bourhim、Mehdi Ouahmane、Imane Zoubai,以及入圍今年台灣當代一年展一年聚焦評審團獎20位藝術家之一的台灣藝術家鄭雅璇,在 Mahal Art Space 策展人 Nouha Ben Yebdri 的規劃下,共同在 Mahal Art Space 藝術空間實體展出他們的精彩作品,展開不同文化背景藝術間的對話。

        本次跨國交流、跨地展出、綜合線上與線下藝術活動的合作,始於社團法人台灣視覺藝術協會所發起的國際交流項目「西亞南亞交流計畫」,除了相互分享各國藝文生態、共學非營利的營運策略,促進多方對話與連結, 同時盼於未來建立長久的雙向交流模式,形塑出穩固的「國際夥伴關係網絡」。 此外,亦期許能藉此拓展大眾對藝術的既有想像,看見文化流動的可能性與多樣性。

 

展覽與合作單位簡介

        《What Dies Last》 是一個跨領域的共同展出,匯集了七位畢業於德土安美術學院的摩洛哥藝術家,展出他們的一系列作品。這群新一代年輕藝術家甫離開校園,即踏入了深受新冠肺炎影響的動盪世界,使他們的職涯發展面臨巨大挑戰。

        本展覽旨在從本地角度探索當前全球共同面對的議題,透過藝術實踐主動形塑未來的樣貌;同時希望大眾關注年輕藝術家遇到的困境,深入探討他們關切的事務,並反思當代摩洛哥如何支持這些藝術家。

        Mahal Art Space 是一個多面向、開放和實驗性的藝術空間,發想、設計並舉辦展覽、放映、工作坊和駐村等活動,盼促進對當今社會、生活方式和歷史的批判性反思,並協助藝術家和觀眾學習與發展。

Mahal 的目標是:

– 支持年輕/新興藝術家建立藝術事業。

– 為研究、生產、展示和交流提供空間和工具。

– 提供關懷和開放式討論,鼓勵批判性思維。

– 提出教育和折衷計劃。

– 以最多元和包容的方式探索藝術與教育的關係。

社團法人台灣視覺藝術協會(簡稱視盟)是一個中介型非營利組織,自1999年成立至今,致力開發並整合視覺藝術環境現有資源,監督政府文化政策,支持或規劃相關視覺藝術與創新計畫,為個人、團體和機構提供專業諮詢,組織或貢獻各種專業。透過規劃展覽、講座活動,並推動國際交流項目,進行社區及藝術教育,與建置資料庫等多項內容,促進藝術的參與和教育,鼓勵擴展藝術交流與對話。

 

參展台灣藝術家 鄭雅璇

        鄭雅璇,生於台灣高雄,目前於國立臺灣藝術大學當代視覺文化碩士班攻讀藝術碩士學位。近幾年從國內駐村與聯展、個展機會,持續關注於「生命/時間」與「人/意識」的關係,其創作選擇由現成物、錄像、聲音與行為作為發展作品之主要媒材,並以同主題作系列性之發展。

The Association of the Visual Arts in Taiwan (AVAT) and Mahal Art Space, a Morocco based independent art space, cohosted an exhibition from December 4, 2021 to January 8, 2022. This physical exhibition is a continuance of Mahal Art Space’s online exhibition “What Dies Last,” which attended the TAIWAN ANNUAL in October, 2021. AVAT and Mahal Art Space jointly invited local Moroccan artists Mohamed Haïti, Ahmad Karmouni, Rahma Lhoussig, Réda Boudina, Diyae Bourhim, Mehdi Ouahmane, Imane Zoubai, and Taiwanese artist CHENG Ya-Hsuan,one of the 20 artists who were shortlisted for this year’s Focal ANNUAL Jury Prize for TAIWAN ANNUAL. Under the planning of Nouha Ben Yebdri, curator of Mahal Art Space, the artists will jointly exhibit their wonderful works in Mahal Art Space, and start a dialogue between different cultural backgrounds and arts.

The cooperation of transnational exchanges, cross-regional exhibitions, and integrated online and offline art activities began with the West Asia and South Asia Exchange Project initiated by AVAT. In addition to sharing the cultural ecology of various countries, learning non-profit operating strategies, and promoting multi-party dialogue and connection, AVAT also looks forward to establishing a long-term, two-way communication model in the future to form a solid international partnership network. AVAT also hopes to expand the public’s imagination of art and guides them to see the possibility and diversity of cultural flow.

“What Dies Last” is a multidisciplinary exhibition featuring a series of works by seven Moroccan artists, all graduates of the National Institute of Fine Arts in Tetouan (INBA). They are part of the new generation of young artists who are beginning to take their first steps outside the academic framework, in an unprecedented moment, marked by the pandemic of the COVID-19 virus, and by the consequences of this one on all the already existing crises. This phenomenon aggravates, even more, all the difficulties inscribed in the process of construction of the artist’s career.

From a general point of view, it is an exhibition that proposes to explore global and shared current issues from local perspectives, in order to take an active position in the construction of the future through artistic practices. At the same time, and more specifically, it is an invitation to focus on the difficulties faced by young artists, to delve into their concerns, as well as to develop a reflection on the opportunities that the current era offers in the Moroccan context to support and empower them.

Mahal Art Space is a multi-faceted, open, and experimental art space that conceives, designs, and hosts exhibitions, presentations, gatherings, screenings, workshops, and residencies, with the aim of promoting critical reflection on today’s society, lifestyle, and history. This space is intended as a place of learning and development for both artists and the audience. It offers artists a space for freedom of reflection and creation, as well as an opportunity to develop and promote their professional careers. For the audience, Mahal aims to be a committed space, from which to discover new narratives, alternative stories, and recondite places.

The Association of the Visual Arts in Taiwan (AVAT) is an intermediary non-profit organization. Since its establishment in 1999, AVAT has committed to developing and integrating existing resources in the visual arts environment, supervising government cultural policies, and supporting or planning related visual arts and innovation projects, recruiting professionals from various fields to provide professional consulting for individual artists, art groups and institutions. Through planning exhibitions, lectures, and promoting international exchange projects, AVAT has promoted art education in local communities and established art database, which help further promote art participation and art education of the public, and encourage the expansion of art exchanges and dialogues.

 

ABOUT CHENG Ya-Hsuan

CHENG Ya-Hsuan was born in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. She is currently studying for her master degree in the department of Contemporary Visual Culture and Practice at National Taiwan University of Arts. She has been participating in some art residency programs and several individual and joint exhibitions, and has been focusing on the relationships between life and time and that of people and consciousness. CHENG uses ready-made objects, video, audio and behavioral arts as the main medium to create her works and develop art series accordingly.

2021亞洲當代藝術共策計畫 跨國合作再發酵

        自2018年開始,視盟連續兩年透過「西亞南亞交流計畫」,邀請來自俄羅斯、印度、尼泊爾、孟加拉、伊朗、烏克蘭、喬治亞、土耳其等地共計13組西亞、南亞國際當代藝術空間,將既有國際事務交流合作平台延伸落實至東亞以外的亞洲地區,梳理並逐步建置西亞、南亞當代藝術空間名單,並透過邀請受邀單位參與「台灣當代一年展」展出,以及進行藝術沙龍、藝術論壇、臺北藝術空間參訪等交流活動,受邀單位以及臺灣藝術機構在交流非營利運作的同質經驗中,得以分享各國藝文生態、共學非營利的營運策略,促進多方對話與連結。

        2021年,西亞南亞交流計畫因疫情影響改為線上進行,以「2021亞洲當代藝術共策計畫」為名,4家國際藝術單位Britto Arts Trust(達卡.孟加拉)、Center of Contemporary Art–Tbilisi(提比里斯.喬治亞)、Mahal Art Space(丹吉爾.摩洛哥)以及Open Place(基輔.烏克蘭)於虛擬展間中與10家國內藝術單位聯合呈現其計畫、展出或作品,帶來多個國家和不同城市的藝術能量,提供一個多元、跨國際的藝術交流空間;同時首次提出「影展播映計畫」,透過其不限形式與類型的影像作品,發掘亞洲獨特觀點,開啟觀眾對於該地區藝術文化與人文風情的想像。

        除此之外,視盟亦特別規劃2場線上座談,以「共感未來」為題,在「藝術在社會中實踐的觀察筆記」及「藝術與土地的那些事」兩場不同子題的分享中展開對話,4家國際藝術單位與4個橫跨臺灣北中南的國內藝術機構或團體,聯合分享藝術之於土地、藝術之於人群的經驗回顧及省思,同時展望未來,思考在疫情或其他不穩定的條件之下,如何在變化中獲得不同面向與創意的發展可能。

        視盟期許能延續2018、2019年的成果,逐步完整大亞洲地區的當代藝術空間名冊,並接洽臺灣從事國際交流的機構,彙整其交流交往過的國際單位名單,用以勾勒一個更為清晰的亞洲當代藝術空間地圖,同時盼於未來建立長久的雙向交流模式,形塑出穩固的「國際夥伴關係網絡」,確實締造臺灣與國際間的連結。

        2021年12月4日至2022年1月8日在摩洛哥Mahal Art Space的實體展出,視盟期待不只是首次嘗試轉為雙向交流的深化合作模式,更可以將彼此10月的國際交流內容做一個延續、整理及發展,在異地展現更多關於視盟、關於國際交流計畫與台灣當代一年展的豐富成果。

        本次展出特別邀請入圍一年聚焦評審團獎20位藝術家之一的鄭雅璇帶來錄像作品《聲音考古》,在Mahal Art Space策展人Nouha延續其10月參與台灣當代一年展的策展主題《What Dies Last》下,與其他摩洛哥的藝術創作展開碰撞及對話。

 

Since 2018, through the cultural exchanges with South and West Asia West, which are supervised by the Ministry of Culture, the Association of the Visual Arts in Taiwan (AVAT) has invited 13 groups of West Asia and South Asia international contemporary art spaces or organizations from Russia, India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Iran, Ukraine, Georgia, and Turkey. Through this program, the AVAT is able to extend the international exchanges and cooperation in cultural affairs outside East Asia to other areas of Asia. AVAT has also sorted out and established a list of contemporary art spaces in West Asia and South Asia, and invited them to participate in the TAIWAN ANNUAL exhibition, which includes salons, forums, art space visits and many other activities. Through these activities, the invitees and Taiwanese art institutions are able to exchange mutual experience in non-profit operations, sharing the cultural ecology of various countries, learning non-profit operating strategies from one another, events that will eventually promote multi-party dialogue and connection.

In 2021, due to the impact of the epidemic, the West Asia and South Asia exchange program will be streamed online. Under the name of “Cultural Exchange Program 2021,” four international art groups, including Brito Art Trust (Dhaka, Bangladesh), Contemporary Art Center – Tbilisi (Tbilisi, Georgia), Mahal Art Space (Tangier, Morocco) and Open Place (Kiev, Ukraine), jointly exhibited their plans, productions and works in virtual exhibition booths with 10 Taiwanese art groups, bringing the artistic energy of many countries and different cities. This project provides a diversified and cross-border art exchange space, and launches the “Film Festival Broadcasting Project” for the first time, exploring the unique perspective of Asia through its indeterminate forms and types of video works, which brings out the unique Asian perspective and guides the audience to imagine the arts, culture and humanities of these regions.

Meanwhile, AVAT specially planned two online seminars with the theme of “Mutual Sensibility to Future,” including two different sub-topics, “observation notes on the practice of art in society” and “Something between art and land.” Four international art units and four Taiwanese art institutions or groups will jointly share their experience and reflections on art to the land and art to the locals, thinking about how to shape a multi-aspect and creative future under the impact of pandemic and other unstable conditions and changes.

AVAT expects to continue the results of year 2018 and 2019 to gradually complete the roster of contemporary art spaces in Asia, and contact institutions engaged in international exchanges in Taiwan to compile the list of international organizations with which they have interacted with, to outline a more complete map of Asia contemporary art spaces. Meanwhile, we look forward to the establishment of a long-term mutual communication model, forming a solid international partnership network, which is expected to create a connection between Taiwan and the world.

In terms of the exhibition that will be held at Mahal Art Space in Morocco from December 4, 2021 to January 8, 2022, AVAT expects it to not only be the first attempt to shift to a two-way communication that deepens current cooperation, but also serves as a showcase and continuance of the content of each other’s international exchanges in October, showing more about the rich achievements of AVAT, various international exchange plans and TAIWAN ANNUAL in an exotic surrounding.

In this exhibition, CHENG Ya-Husan, one of the 20 artists shortlisted for the Focal ANNUAL Jury Prize of TAIWAN ANNUAL, is invited to bring her video work “Sound Search”. The curator Nouha from the Mahal Art Space will share her collisions and interactions with other Moroccan art creations under the theme “What Dies Last,” which is the continuation of her participation in the curatorial exhibition of the TAIWAN ANNUAL in October.
