Shunya means void, cipher, non- existence or it could mean vacant as well. Shunya can also be a group of secluding individual existence in transitory politics and society. Initially based in Bombay the group of people: Nikhil Raunak, Amol Patil, Sachin Bonde, Poonam Jain, Yogesh Barve, Rupali Patil and Prabhakar Pachpute who met gradually at Clark House Initiative in 2012. The members were recent graduates from three different universities in India perceiving multi-disciplinary subjects in art. The group explores the possibilities of participation in an art scene that closed door through and architecture of discrimination, based on parameters. The practice of Shunya is not restricted in the form of exhibition space. It’s output stretches to the community architecture, which becomes part of the resistance. Making murals, using posters made by artist and sticking them on public walls and performance. Taking archive and using it in public spaces or distributing pamphlets, keeping it open to the interpretation for those who hardly have access to it.
