Throughout more than eight years, she has been driven by a deep sense of mission to involve herself in the effort to preserve the culture of military dependents\u2019 villages, and as a result has personally shared the trials and tribulations experienced by village residents. In Kaohsiung\u2019s military dependents\u2019 villages, Hou\u2019s encounters with local spaces and her life interwoven with different courses of life have inspired her to develop a style of multi-domain art encompassing and transcending documentary photography, field narratives, and social practice.<\/p>\n<p>\u672c\u5c55\u70ba\u7b56\u5c55\u4eba\u9ec3\u5b6b\u6b0a\u8207\u85dd\u8853\u5bb6\u4faf\u6dd1\u59ff\u7e7c2010\u5e74\u9ad8\u7f8e\u9928\u7684\u5275\u4f5c\u8ad6\u58c7\u300a\u671b\u5411\u5f7c\u65b9\uff1a\u4e9e\u6d32\u65b0\u5a18\u4e4b\u6b4c\u300b\u5f8c\u518d\u6b21\u5408\u4f5c\u3002\u6b64\u9ad8\u96c4\u7737\u6751\u4e09\u90e8\u66f2\u662f\u70ba\u85dd\u8853\u5bb6\u591a\u5e74\u6df1\u5165\u9ad8\u96c4\u5de6\u71df\u8207\u9cf3\u5c71\u7737\u6751\u5275\u4f5c\u7684\u7e3d\u7d50\u3002\u85c9\u7531\u7b56\u5c55\u4eba\u7a31\u4e4b\u70ba\u300c\u96d9\u7738\u300d\u98a8\u683c\u7684\u6b63\u8ca0\u5f71\u50cf\u4e26\u7f6e\u3001\u4e3b\u5ba2\u89c0\u9ede\u4e26\u9673\u7684\u8868\u73fe\u624b\u6cd5\uff0c\u4f5c\u54c1\u5448\u73fe\u4e86\u5728\u7737\u6539\u689d\u4f8b\u4e0b\u5e7e\u7d93\u6ce2\u6298\u52d5\u76ea\u7684\u96e2\u6563\u6ec4\u6851\uff0c\u4ee5\u53ca\u85dd\u8853\u5bb6\u8207\u7737\u6751\u5c45\u6c11\u5728\u5c0d\u8a71\u4e2d\u6240\u4ea4\u758a\u7684\u7576\u4ee3\u53f2\u5fc3\u8072\u3002<\/p>\n<p>This exhibition represents a further collaborative effort involving curator Huang Sun Quan and the artist in the wake of the \u201cLook toward the Other Side: Song of Asian Foreign Brides in Taiwan,\u201d which was held in 2010 under the auspices of Forum for Creativity in Art at Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts. A Trilogy on Kaohsiung Military Dependents\u2019 Villages summarizes the artist\u2019s creative work involving Kaohsiung\u2019s Zuoying and Fengshan military dependents\u2019 villages over the course of many years. Employing the juxtaposition of positive and negative image pairs \u2014 which is termed a \u201cDouble-gaze\u201d style by the curator, the artist superimposes subjective and objective viewpoints. Her work displays the dispersion and disruption of the military dependents\u2019 villages, the turmoil and transience of the village residents\u2019 lives as well as their appeals for \u201cgoing back home\u201d due to the improper execution of \u201cAct for Rebuilding Old Quarters for Military Dependents,\u201d and creates a contemporary epic of local history interwoven with the artist\u2019s narratives and her dialogue with the residents.<\/p>\n<p>\u81ea2013\u5e74\u7684\u300a\u6211\u5011\u5728\u6b64\u76f8\u9047\u300b\u30012015\u5e74\u300a\u9577\u65e5\u5c07\u76e1\u300b\uff0c\u5230\u65b0\u8fd1\u5b8c\u6210\u7684\u300a\u9109\u95dc\u4f55\u8655\u300b\u7cfb\u5217\uff0c\u6b64\u4e09\u90e8\u66f2\u7cfb\u5217\u4f5c\u54c1\u6620\u7167\u51fa\u7737\u6751\u7684\u4e0d\u540c\u547d\u904b\u2014\u4eba\u7269\u5168\u975e\u7684\u3001\u623f\u820d\u4f9d\u820a\u4f46\u4eba\u56de\u4e0d\u53bb\u7684\u3001\u4ecd\u596e\u529b\u5b58\u6d3b\u7684\u5bb6\u5712\u3002\u85dd\u8853\u5bb6\u900f\u904e\u651d\u5f71\u8a18\u9304\u3001\u8a2a\u8ac7\u8abf\u67e5\u3001\u884c\u52d5\u4ecb\u5165\uff0c\u5728\u793e\u6703\u6027\u7a7a\u9593\u88e1\u751f\u7522\u85dd\u8853\uff1b\u65bc\u7530\u91ce\u9593\u3001\u65bc\u85dd\u8853\u5bb6\u4ee5\u8eab\u70ba\u5ea6\u4e4b\u969b\u3001\u65bc\u5c45\u6c11\u5411\u516c\u5171\u6b77\u53f2\u8aaa\u8a71\u4e2d\u751f\u7522\u4f5c\u54c1\u3002<\/p>\n<p>The trilogy, which consists of the \u201cHere is where we meet\u201d series published in 2013, the \u201cRemains of the Day\u201d series published in 2015 and the recently-completed \u201cOut of Place\u201d series, reflects different fates of military dependents\u2019 villages: people and houses all gone, houses still present but no people living in them, and still-thriving communities. The artist relies on her photographic record, interviews, and active intervention to produce art in social spaces. In the field, the artist has deep empathy with the residents. Going together, they create a public history and start a conversation with Taiwan\u2019s societies.<\/p>\n<p>\u85dd\u8853\u5bb6\u7684\u651d\u5f71\u4e26\u975e\u518d\u73fe\u7737\u6751\uff0c\u800c\u662f\u5275\u9020\u6211\u5011\u8207\u7737\u6751\u7684\u5171\u611f\uff0c\u8b93\u9bae\u5c11\u88ab\u8ad6\u53ca\u7684\u7737\u6751\u5973\u6027\u5f97\u4ee5\u986f\u9732\u5176\u751f\u547d\u6b77\u7a0b\uff0c\u4e26\u63ed\u793a\u51fa\u5168\u53f0\u6d88\u4ea1\u7684\u7737\u6751\u4e43\u516c\u5171\u4f4f\u5b85\u79c1\u6709\u5316\u7684\u6b77\u53f2\u3002\u9577\u671f\u81f4\u529b\u65bc\u5f9e\u5973\u6027\u89c0\u9ede\u66f8\u5beb\u8207\u5275\u4f5c\u7684\u4faf\u6dd1\u59ff\uff0c\u4ee4\u6211\u5011\u8046\u807d\u7737\u6751\u5973\u6027\u7684\u8072\u97f3\uff0c\u770b\u5230\u5979\u5011\u8207\u570b\u5bb6\u3001\u5bb6\u5712\u3001\u7537\u6027\u611b\u6068\u7cfe\u7e8f\u7684\u5bb9\u984f\u3002\u540c\u6642\u4ee4\u6211\u5011\u610f\u8b58\u5230\u7737\u6751\u4e0d\u662f\u9109\u6101\uff0c\u800c\u662f\u4e00\u6bb5\u8b93\u53f0\u7063\u793e\u6703\u805a\u843d\u5931\u53bb\u4e00\u5207\u5171\u6709 ( \u5bb6\u5712\u3001\u8a18\u61b6\u3001\u5171\u540c\u751f\u6d3b ) \u7684\u6b98\u9177\u6b77\u53f2\u7684\u4e00\u90e8\u5206\u3002\u4e5f\u56e0\u6b64\uff0c\u6b64\u5c55\u89bd\u80fd\u5920\u4f7f\u5f97\u6211\u5011\u5f9e\u300c\u61c9\u7576\u53bb\u90a3\u5152\u4f4f\u300d( there that I should like to live )\u7684\u611f\u53d7\u6027\u2014\u5df4\u7279\u8a8d\u70ba\u651d\u5f71\u6700\u597d\u7684\u54c1\u8cea\u2014\u51fa\u767c\uff0c\u601d\u8003\u903c\u554f\u53f0\u7063\u571f\u5730\u4e0a\u6bcf\u4e00\u500b\u4eba\u7684\u3001\u800c\u975e\u50c5\u662f\u7737\u6751\u4f4f\u6236\u7684\u554f\u984c\uff1a\u82e5\u300c\u5730\u666f\u7684\u672c\u8cea\u662f\uff1a\u5bb6\u300d( the essence of the landscape: heimlich )\uff0c\u90a3\u6211\u5011\u7684\u5bb6\u5728\u54ea\u88e1\uff1f<\/p>\n<p>The artist\u2019s photographs are not a representation of military dependents\u2019 villages, but rather the creation of a shared feeling among all of us, not just the military dependents\u2019 villages. These works are sketches of an after-war migration history, which reveal the traumatic experiences related to local feelings and living histories due to urban development, and represent a collective movement of the residents of military dependents\u2019 villages to \u201chave a Home.\u201d Having long striven to write and create art from a female perspective, the artist lets us hear the voices of women of the military dependents\u2019 villages; in her art, we see these women\u2019s complicated love\/hate relationships with their country, their homeland, and their men. At the same time, her art makes us conscious of the fact that the military dependents\u2019 villages do not represent nostalgia. In fact, the disappearing course of military dependents\u2019 villages across Taiwan are equivalent to the history of the privatization of public housing in Taiwan, as well as the cruel historical process in which some major social communities in Taiwan lost all their common property (home, memories, communal life.)<\/p>\n<p>As such, this exhibition is able to help us proceed from having a sensation of \u201cthere that I should like to live\u201d \u2014 which French philosopher Roland Barthes considers the best quality of photography \u2014 to thinking about a question that not only the residents of military dependents\u2019 villages but also each and every person in Taiwan should be forced to answer: If \u201csuch then would be the essence of the landscape: heimlich (meaning home
